Our Mission
Our mission is to build an informed and engaged community committed to finding sustainable solutions to alleviate hunger, reclaim and repurpose food waste and promote the health and well-being of all.
What Started with One Fallen Fruit Tree Grew into a County-wide Movement.
In 2010, Nita Kurmins Gilson noticed something during her neighborhood walks: fruit was falling from nearby trees and going to waste. She began gathering friends and family to glean the excess produce and donate it to local food banks but quickly realized the issue was too large to solve alone.
In 2014, mother and daughter Jerilyn and Alexandra White were introduced to Nita through a mutual friend. Alex saw an opportunity to create lasting change through partnership, while Jeri was passionate about building community for aging adults, and Alex was driven by expanding access to fresh, healthy food for all. Together with Nita’s commitment to reducing food waste, the three women founded ProduceGood.
