Edible Produce Recovery – Glean, sort and collect surplus produce

Each week, we schedule and equip dozens of volunteers to glean or collect surplus fruit and vegetables from dozens of orchards, backyards, farms, Farmers Markets And grocers, who donate their excess to feed the one in four San Diegans struggling with hunger. Whether picking citrus from a San Diego backyard through our CropSwap Residential Fruit Recovery program, or collecting unsold produce from Grocers, Farms or Sunday Farmers Markets through our Market Share Commercial Produce Recovery program, ProduceGood volunteers are trained and prepared to reduce food waste and hunger every week of the year.

Fresh Produce Supply – Service San Diego organizations that feed people

Each week, ProduceGood supplies 24,000+ servings of fruit and vegetables to dozens of SD organizations for the food-insecure people they serve. Our harvests are equivalent to 500,000 meals, annually for the thousands of individuals gaining access. Would you like to become a member of this network to feed your populations? You can commit to receiving produce from us weekly as a Market Share partner, monthly as a Bounty Partner or when you need it as a member of the Produce Provision Network we serve. Produce Transportation & Logistics – Connect excess produce with the food system

From the source to the need – we get it and move it for you, but this takes time, coordination and management.

Before our volunteers can pick fruit at residential properties with dozens to hundreds of trees or with only one or a few trees, much coordination takes place to ensure ripe fruit and immediate fresh delivery to the awaiting feeding partner. If you have a large property with thousands of surplus pounds, we coordinate with San Diego’s two largest food banks to schedule tote drops as part of the county’s centralized food recovery system.

And when we are sorting or collecting produce, before our volunteers come to your market stall, farm, or to the produce section of your grocery store, we know exactly how much we can take and who we are delivering to that day, hauling 50-1,000 pounds of fresh produce at a time. These transport services are available Monday-Thursday with direct supply to feeding partners.

Contact us to create a schedule or arrange for a pickup with 48 hours advanced notice.

Education & Outreach – Increasing awareness and skills to prevent food waste

Our intent is to educate as many people as we can on food waste prevention to feed people, save the environment and help everyone feel good. Every ProduceGood pick event includes an explanation of the food waste challenge, ProduceGood’s gleaning solution and an orientation to prepare volunteers for their service. Additionally, ProduceGood provides annual online training sessions each quarter to educate and support Volunteer Leads. ProduceGood also participates in dozens of community events to deliver outreach and education to reach thousands of individuals. We have also developed a curriculum for schools, clubs and after school programs called E-champs Food Waste Prevention Education to engage youth.
