ProduceGood

 Who is ProduceGood?

We are a food recovery organization but not a traditional one. We go to the source of surplus produce (orchards, backyards, farms, farmers markets and grocers) to glean the excess and then transport it to pantries, shelters and other organizations who feed food insecure people in San Diego County. Join us!

Hmm, But What is Gleaning?

It’s to gather leftover crops from fields after a harvest, or to collect surplus fresh food from farms, markets, and backyard trees before it goes to waste. Once a centuries-old tradition for sharing the harvest, gleaning is now a vital tool for rescuing perfectly good food and getting it to people who need it. At ProduceGood, it’s the heart of what we do.

Together, we are reducing food waste and hunger in San Diego.

 What We Do

Transport & Logistics

Have a large property with thousands of surplus pounds? We coordinate with San Diego’s two largest food banks to schedule tote drop-offs as part of the county’s centralized food recovery system. Our transportation services are available Monday - Thursday, where we directly supply ripe fruit and fresh delivery to awaiting feeding partners.

Edible Produce Recovery

We organize our volunteers weekly to collect surplus produce from dozens of orchards, backyards, farms, and markets, who donate their excess to feed 25% of San Diegans struggling with hunger. Leading our volunteers with an ambitious mindset, we hold weekly trainings to reduce food waste and hunger across San Diego.

Fresh Produce Supply

ProduceGood supplies 24,000+ weekly servings of fruit and vegetables to dozens of San Diego organizations, serving multiple food-insecure families. Our volunteers hand-pick ripe fruits and ensure fresh produce in every glean. ProduceGood’s harvests are equivalent to 500,000 annual meals, relieving thousands of individuals from hunger!

Education & Outreach

ProduceGood pick events include an overview of food waste, our gleaning solution, and volunteer orientation to educate communities to prevent food waste and protect the environment. We also offer quarterly online training for Volunteer Leads, do outreach events, and provide afterschool E-champs curriculums to engage youth.

Get Involved

Our ProduceGood volunteers come from various backgrounds and age groups, each sharing an interest in alleviating San Diego hunger and food waste. Together, we are recovering food from over 800 growers & farmers to serve 90,000+ seniors, families, women & children, unhoused, immigrants, refugees, and many more through the distribution of over 90 feeding partners. Join our community and sign up to volunteer!
